It’s International Yoga Day, and I love taking a moment to reflect on all the wonderful things yoga has brought to my life. I really have become one of those crazy yogis who believes that yoga is the answer for everyone.
So if you’ve never tried yoga and are using one of these excuses, here’s what I say to you…
••• 𝐈’𝐦 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐭. ••• Nope. Yoga is for all sizes and yes, sometimes our fat literally gets in the way of certain poses, but there are always modifications to make it work for you.
••• 𝐈’𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡. ••• Not flexible? Perfect – yoga is for you! Yoga will increase your flexibility in a gentle and safe way.
••• 𝐈’𝐦 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐨𝐥𝐝. ••• No such thing. There is a yoga teacher (teaching 6-8 classes per week) who is 100 years old.
••• 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. ••• Um, honestly when I hear people say they don’t have the time, I believe what they’re saying is that they’re not willing to make the time. Because we all make time for the things that truly matter to us. If you made the time to start yoga and commit to it, you would see how awesome it is, and it would become a priority for you. Plus, you don’t have to go to hour long classes at a yoga studio- you can always start a home practice that fits into your schedule.
••• 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚. ••• Going to yoga classes does cost money, but there are also very cost effective online classes, if you are right on money or don’t live near a yoga studio. If at all possible, I highly recommend doing some drop in classes to get the foundations right under the instruction of a yoga teacher before embarking on a full home journey.
••• 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬. ••• Do you have clothes? Excellent. You can do yoga. You’re not required to have fancy leggings or a sports bra. You just might eventually want them because they can make it easier to move around. But by all means, you can do yoga in any clothes, or in none at all (but please keep that in your own house 😂)
What other excuses do you hear? What other excuses do you make?
