I don’t know if you’ve had the chance to see the movie ‘The Greatest Showman’, but there is this song, “This is Me”, which is basically the anthem of the movie. I can’t imagine a person who listens to it and is not stirred in their soul.
The world around us is constantly telling us how we should look, what we should do, or who we should be. And that if we somehow don’t fit into that mold, that makes us a lesser human. How can this be? How does someone else get to decide our worth or our value, or whether we should be seen?
“This is Me” is a beautifully written song that screams that you are good enough.
But, you’re going to have to stand up and sing it right there with them. Stand up and let the world know that you’re proud of who you are. Stand up and declare that you won’t hide your differences, but rather wear them proudly. Show your colours. Show that what makes you unique, makes you beautiful, by all standards. Or even better – what if we just did away with those so-called standards, and we changed the lenses we look through. Instead of trying to fit into one mold, let’s celebrate how glorious our differences make us.
If you find that you’re in a space where you’re not quite ready to scream from the roof tops about how worthy you are, this is for you. I hope you surround yourself with people who can see you, even when you cannot. I hope that you can stand next to those who want to see your star shine, and will help raise you up. And if you find that wherever you are, there is no one standing next to you lifting you up, know that we are here. Every person who has ever felt like who they are wasn’t enough. We are all here, standing with you. Connected with you. Rising up together. We will be your strength until you find your own.
